• Match Report - Pembroke v Cwmtawe

    Score: 2-0

From the start of being united, Cwmtawe were faced with obstacles which set a sense of mind that the day was not going to run smoothly. The hour unfamiliar journey, changing room dilemma and no warm up time did not create a motivating mindset. Our pink ladies were up against a young, confident team who had competent individual skills.

The whole game felt a rush; some of the girls did not touch the ball until challenged by the opposition. The well prepared Pembroke side gave a noteworthy performance demonstrating powerful hits and confidence where as the pink ladies were unprepared and a number down.

Cwmtawe gave a respectful performance however only entered their 25 line a handful of times.

  • Match Report - Cwmtawe v Milford Haven

For today’s game, our youthful pink ladies were up against a young experienced Milford Haven side. It was perceived before the whistle that this game was going to be competitive. But as always we were up for the challenge! We knew we were up against a side that had a strong front line which would test us defensively. We were not off to a good start when Rhisian Mai Davies decided to leave her stick in the dug-out (only realising what she had done when the starting whistle blew...Typical!)

It only took minutes for our defensive players to realise how speedy the opposition’s front line were. It was evident that these players could not be given space or it would cost us the game. However, these speedy players managed to work together creating space which is how we conceded our first goal of the game. It took real effort from our pink ladies to keep up with Milford. Out of nowhere, Ffion Evans scored a goal off a long corner without saying sorry to the goalkeeper! (1-1) We triumphed on to scoring another goal from Lydia Tibbet. Lydia demonstrated pure confidence, gaining a strike at goal off a short corner (2-1).

Much to our dislike, Milford managed to step up their game by making it 2-3 which meant another loss for us. However much can be taken from the game! 1. We found our permanent 1st runner in defensive corners 2. We can step up to a challenge & 3. Rhisian will never forget her stick before the start again!

    The Cwmtawe squad;

    1. Danielle Morgan (GK)

    2. Sarah Shaw (Capt)

    3. Jessica Jones

    4. Lydia Tibbet

    5. Rhisian Davies

    6. Ffion Evans

    7. Jo Williams

    8. Gwen Shenton

    9. Nia Morgan

    10. Lottie Flowers

  • Cwmtawe Ladies Hockey Club Charity Hockey Day raises over £470!

On Sunday 20th November, Cwmtawe Ladies Hockey Club held a charity event in aid of the Swansea Valley Miner’s Appeal Fund.

The day kicked off with the monthly South West Wales Junior Development Tournament for u13s and u15s, with Crymych, Llanybydder, Fishguard and Cwmtawe fielding teams. Throughout the tournament, willing volunteers from Cwmtawe club kept spectators (and players!) fed and watered with a hot dog stand, soup, sandwiches and cakes – all provisions were donated by Cwmtawe members, so all proceeds went straight into the charity’s collection. The Hockey Wales “Smurf Turf” was also available for kids (big and small!) to have a bit of inflatable fun between matches, and the speed gun provided that extra bit of competition, with players from all clubs trying to beat each other’s scores!

In the afternoon, members of Teigrod Tywi, Neath Men and Cwmtawe Ladies took to the field for some friendly 7 a-side games, with all participants making a donation to the collection buckets.

The total raised on the day £477.20, which will go directly to the Swansea Valley Miner’s Appeal Fund.

Cwmtawe Ladies Hockey Club would like to thank the following for their support for making the day such a success:

Angela Miles (Hockey Development Officer for Pembrokeshire County Council) for organising the junior tournament

Fishguard and Goodwick, Crymych, Llanybydder, Teigrod Tywi and Neath Men’s Hockey Clubs for their participation and donations

Bridgend Hockey Club for their generous letter of support and donation towards the event

School Camp Ltd for providing the equipment for the hot dog stand

Celtic Community Leisure for donating the pitch for the day

Hockey Wales for the Smurf Turf and speed gun

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council for their support to hold the event
